Sandridge Nature Center May 2008
|
The wait is over! Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. I decided to go to one of my favorite local trails, the Sand Ridge Nature Center. It feels good to once again photograph the new spring flowers. I love spring and all that it brings. There are new flowers lining the trails and the trees are in full bloom. The birds have made their new nests, laid their eggs and most have hatched. On the pond I found two geese resting on a partially submerged log. Their reflections made it look as if there were four of them. On the far side, there was also a pair of Night Herons looking for a meal. The boardwalk through the swamp area was lined with newly emerging trees, ferns and fungi. The light that made it through the thick canopy danced on the water. At the end of my hike I stopped by the old settlers' homestead to get a few pictures of the log cabins. The Sand Ridge Nature Center is located In South Holland, IL, 15890 Paxton Avenue.
