Morning Visitor - February 2009

Another Saturday morning. My wife and I awoke as usual and followed the aroma of the freshly brewing coffee to the kitchen. After pouring a cup and enjoying my first sip, I opened the window blinds. It was a beautiful winter morning. The sun was shining and the branches were covered in a powdery snow that had fallen during the night. I looked at the bird feeder to see if the usual visitors were there, Gold Finches and Junko’s. Nothing, not a sign of any activity. Then I noticed something in the pine tree. Sitting patiently and looking like a large pinecone was a Cooper’s hawk. I called for my wife to see who showed up for breakfast. All the birds were in the neighbor's yard feeding and carefully watching the watcher…..
