While on an early spring vacation to South Carolina, Maureen and I stopped to take a tour of Middleton Place, an 18th-century plantation. There were several animals wandering around, but this male peacock seemed to demand attention. It was like he was putting on a show for me. He would let out a scream then spread his plume and start to strut in a majestic manner around the yard. This guy was clearly king of the territory.
